Interview with Lyndie Benson
Today we are interviewing Lyndie Benson – @bensonlyndie on Instagram, a native Angeleno, relocated to Malibu 25 years ago with her husband, renowned musician Kenny G, to raise their two children. Alongside her role as a devoted mother, Lyndie discovered her passion for photography, capturing striking images that graced Kenny’s album covers and gained recognition through her own exhibitions.
Drawing inspiration from her Malibu lifestyle, Lyndie ventured into the world of design when a friend invited her to create pieces for their company. Despite lacking a formal background in design, Lyndie’s intuitive sense of style and her desire to craft clothing that reflected her own coastal aesthetic led to the birth of BLEUSALT.
BLEUSALT, a brand that combines elegance with sustainability, quickly gained acclaim for its eco-friendly fabrics and timeless designs. Lyndie’s innate creativity and dedication shine through each thoughtfully crafted piece, showcasing her ability to merge comfort and fashion seamlessly.
As a successful single mother, Lyndie now focuses her energy on her work, utilizing her talent and passion to create something truly exceptional. Through BLEUSALT, she invites others to embrace the harmonious blend of comfort, style, and the spirit of Malibu.
Question: What inspired you to venture into the fashion industry with a focus on sustainability and environmentally friendly practices?
Lyndie: I would never want to put something out into the world that didn’t align with my own personal values.
Question: As an entrepreneur, you’ve had to navigate the challenges of growing a business in a competitive industry. What were some of the biggest obstacles you’ve faced, and how have you overcome them?
Lyndie: Obstacles are a part of things every day, you just deal with them… overcome them, don’t take no for an answer, and keep moving forward.
Some of the obstacles we had were so big like an entire production was produced that ended up being the worst fabric and we had to start all over!
Question: Are there any individuals or brands that you would love to collaborate with to create unique, sustainable fashion pieces or projects?
Lyndie: Oh now you are really talking haha I would love to do this…. So so many ideas-We just did one this year with Christian Siriano-Now Christian does major gowns….super elevated so we thought how elevated can Bleusalt go and it turn out all the way up! He created some beautiful dresses from the softest fibers on earth. Not only are you comfortable as can be but as elevated as it gets!
Question: What is your personal definition of success, and how do you maintain a sense of balance between your professional and personal life?
Lyndie: Balance isn’t really an issue for me as my children are all grown and having a divorce 10 years ago at 50 had me starting all over again. I think it’s amazing to start a business at 55! I am so much smarter and more capable now and I have the time, the energy, and the passion so it’s amazing but no balance at all I love to work 24-7 on Bleusalt.
Question: What makes you roll your eyes every time you hear it?
Lyndie: That real Sustainability is not buying anything…which is true but we LOVE our fabric so we are buying we are just making it conscious consuming.
Question: What topic could you spend hours talking about?
Lyndie: Clothes and feeling your best….. hours and hours and hours
Question: What is your motto for life?
Lyndie: Feel the power that comes from focusing on what excites you! That might be from Oprah….my queen.
